Social Media: The Best & Worst of Us

As a social media creator and consumer, I have a ringside seat to the ever-evolving spectacle that is our digital age. This realm of social media platforms, where the world converges to share thoughts, emotions, and opinions, has shown me a vivid portrait of the human condition. The Israel and Palestine conflict brings to light a striking and often poignant truth: how this medium can reveal the best and worst of us through the lens of empathy, indifference and apathy.
During these tumultuous days, social media platforms become the modern-day battle field, where individuals from all walks of life gather to express their views. We roll up our sleeves, glue our eyes on these tiny screen, and put our thumbs to battle. Some of us point cameras at our faces, spew our thoughts and wait for our brothers in arms to rally behind us and our opposers to fight. Social media has become a place where we can all exist, fight, connect, and have a voice. Among these diverse voices, I can’t help but notice two distinct camps: the empathetic, and the apathetic.
During this conflict, I am witnessing how empathy, like a wellspring of humanity, pours forth from many corners of social media. People from different backgrounds, beliefs, and nationalities come together to share their heartfelt messages. They post heartwarming stories of unity, resilience, and shared sorrow…
